- Do Not Stare Into The Eyes of A Kitsune: A Short Story: June 5th, 2018
It’s June 2018. For those in the US, I hope you’ve had a nice Memorial Day weekend.
This month, I want to talk about future plans. I have my first short story coming out, and I hope everyone who reads this takes the time to check it out when it releases on June 5th. It’s been fun to craft something that’s both mystical and sinister, yet heartfelt and noble, but I have more works down the line. I want to talk about them. Ideas for the future and a plan to get my name into the wild and into the ebook atmosphere and perhaps get a wider audience for my upcoming novel.
So, let’s begin.
Mini-Novels
Let’s start with a project I’m doing called “Mini-Novels.” What these will be are novella-type stories that have a small plot, few characters, yet a large enough story that will take 2-3 sittings to finish for the average reader. Potentially around 25-30k words each. My novels tend to run around 50-70k for comparison and I’ll seek the traditional route for those.
Mini-Novels are what I’ll make to buy time while my major works are coming out and will be released more frequently. The first, City of Kaiju, will release sometime at the end of the year, or potentially early next year. It was planned as another short story, but I’ve decided to make it longer and that’s what made me come up with this idea. I’ll announce a proper release date soon. So that will be released sometime between Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 (so March 2019 the latest) The second one, which doesn’t have a final title yet, will be Spring-Summer 2019. I plan to release about 2-3 per year, but for now, I’ll release them every 6 months or so.
It’s more viable for me than a short story since it’s not as condensed. Most of my short stories will run about 4-6k words, maybe less, but I want my mini-novels to be longer and more engaging. I’ll post a preview sometime in the coming months, but I hope you give these stories a shot.
Short Story Anthology
Next on the list is my Short Story Anthology series, titled “Tales From The Silver Claw Inn.” I don’t feel like individual stories will be viable in the long run, so I figured I’d bundle all of them together with about 12-13 stories each. Again, these would be treated like Mini-Novels and I’d release only one of these per year.
If you’re worried, regarding my Kitsune story (which you can buy here, as well as other ebook retailers), I’ve decided that that will remain a standalone story. It’s also a test to see how this self-publishing model works and how I can improve for the future. Do buy it because it’s a good gauge of my writing ability.
So while I can’t announce any specific stories right now, I will keep you posted on any future projects. My first anthology will be available Spring 2019.
Blog Posts
I want to talk about my blog for a bit. I have two types of posts. General posts where I talk about the latest movies, games, and just general thoughts on specific topics, and novel and short story reviews. I feel like my review posts are more positive than any of my other content, so I’ll be focusing on them. Real life’s been hectic for me, so I tend to just figure out what to write closer to when I post it, but I’m trying to improve on that.
I hope to include more movie reviews (Including a review of the new Star Wars spinoff film) plus more anime and game reviews. I’ll look into smaller games with an excellent story alongside big-name titles. These won’t be all of my blog posts, I will have topical stuff if I feel I have to talk about it, but that’s my plan. More reviews, more news-y posts, less fluff.
I’m also tossing around ideas for other topics aside from my usual stuff, but I want to improve a little at a time. I enjoy blogging about stuff and since it’s a different experience, I’m getting better as time goes on. I feel I’m getting a stronger footing at how I approach things and I’m getting new followers every couple of days or so. I doubt I’ve lost one, so that’s impressive enough, right?
Also, I have a little over 100 followers, which is amazing. Not massive, but for a new blog, it’s good enough for me. Things can only go up from here.
So that’s about it. I’ve talked about a ton since I last posted this, but I hope to have more to talk about next month.
Take care, and remember, the inn is always open.
Note: I also have a Trello page if you want to keep tabs on my WIP. I update these often, independent of my Status Updates. If you can see my due-dates, these are deadlines for me to finish that specific draft. THEY ARE NOT RELEASE DATES! I will announce dates only on my website and social media channels, so please keep that in mind.\
Thank you. 🙂
